Lanes End Winery
Organic, Waikato Winery
Lane’s End is the name of the wines of Birchwood Lane Vineyard in Tamahere, on the outskirts of Hamilton. The venture is the idea of Dr Rainer Eschenbruch, a career wine scientist who worked for many years at the former Te Kauwhata Viticultural Research Station. He was also a co-founder of Rongopai Wines and has advised a number of national and international wineries.
Birchwood Lane vineyard grows Pinot Noir, Malbec and Voigner. The grapes are grown using organic principals where no herbicides, fungicides or insecticides are used. The soil is healthy and minerally balanced, containing plenty of organic matter and vibrant communities of microbes. This, in turn, results in healthier and more resistant vines, less constrained by monocultural demands.
The wines are all made with a minimum of interference. They show true and strong varietal characters; the essence of the Waikato. The Pinot Noir is light, complete and soft. The Malbec is full of complexity and the Voigner is appealingly fruity. From time to time a Rose wine, made in the typical French tradition complements the selection.
More about Lanes End…

Rainer likes to stress that his wines are healthy and nutritious. The grapes are grown in a way nature intended and then the wines are made with the clear intention that the grapes not the wine maker should be at the forefront.
You can taste and buy Lane’s End wines from Rainer at the Tamahere Market (3rd Sat of each month) or the at the Hamilton Farmers Market the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.
