I used to love snuggling up to mum in the morning when she was wearing her winter dressing gown..she used to wrap her arms & the gown around me like a little possum. I felt so secure and loved her ‘mum’ smell. Now my 3 year old son loves to snuggle up to me like a baby possum! Its so cute.

My first Mothers’s Day as a Mummy, my partner had bought the most cutest card ever and put a print of our daughter’s hand and feet in it. Just seeing the card written out to ‘Mum’ had my heart swelling.

  3. Mum myself says:

My happiest memory is the trip that I took my Mum on to Melbourne, her first time out of NZ and very sadly the last Mother’s Day we experienced together.

  4. Vish says:

It was my last Mother’s day just before I got married two years back and had to relocate to another country.. I remember making it so special for mom on that day, since I knew that I would not be around the next year and the year after..I surprised her in the morning with a treasure hunt, leading her to the entire house filled with little gifts and the last clue took her to a chauffeur driven spa visit where she was pampered to the T. She was so blown away and could not really believe I could do all this for her.. This was the most extravagant mother’s day for us. I am planning a big one next year hopefully :)

was last yr on mothers day when I saw the happy look on my mums face when i flew home from o/s to surprise mum, as it was her wish to have all family together under 1 roof again. her face light up, her arms open wide for the longest hug ever

Best memory of my mum would be when she first held my son (her grandson)when they came to visit me at the hospital. The look on her face as she gaze on her first grandchild is pure joy.

  7. Tina Dorn says:

My best memory of my mum was when i phoned her in labour with our twins. She had to travel from Palmerston North and was so excited that she jumped in the car and didn’t bring ANYTHING but herself! No clothes, no handbag, NOTHING! xx

  8. Claire says:

Hubby is not into what he calls consumer celebrations, so his Mum, who also has 3 other sons, tended to miss out on pampering on Mothers Day. It was rewarding for me to repay the kindness and help she gave me when I joined the family by buying a little gift or making sure we visited, and it is true she didn’t lose a son but gained a daughter. Hubby doesn’t rely on one day to remember her, he rings her EVERY day to make sure she is o.k. and let her know he is thinking of her.

  9. Kim says:

The first year I became a Mum myself after having my first daughter, we had an afternoon tea with my Mum and my Nana. 4 generations of girls – we got lots of lovely photos, had a wonderful catch-up, good advice from different generations passed down and lovely food and conversation. Bliss.

Learning to bake with my mother ,standing on a chair at the bench learning to crack eggs, beat, mix then lick the mixing spoon. All the things I did with my mother I did with my children and now share with my grandaughter .That is why I love to cook today.

  11. Sherry says:

I have fond memories of having to run back to bed so the children could deliver breakfast to me. Toast with half the jam jar piled on each slice and a half cold hot drink. They would then sit on the bed and watch me eat to check that I really liked it. Mother’s Day is such a special occasion.

  12. Anne Marie says:

Trying to make mum breakfast in bed with my younger sister…of course we didnt know how to make toast, or tea, or anything! but we tried

  13. Isabelle says:

Instead of giving her a flower bouquet I planted her favourite flowers in her garden to surprise her. So everyday she sees a beautiful sight of the most magnificent flowers.

  14. Susan says:

All mothers days are special and I feel very blessed to be able to still share a special day with my mother as well as have my children want to spend time with me.The love and warmth of the generations together is just fantastic.

  15. Chris says:

My favourite memory is my little children waking me on Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed. The tray was beautiful with a mat and a flower, the breakfast…a huge bowl piled hight with dry cereal and an unpeeled potoato! It seems there was no milk in the fridge for the cereal and no bread on the bench for toast. The tinies had improvised. They were so excited at their masterpiece and the littler one was jumping up and down saying “We ‘cooked’ the potato in the microwave’ They had – a full thirty seconds. It took a long, long time, but I ate almost all that breakfast and still remember it as one of the best in my life!

  16. Rosebud says:

My siblings are spread out across NZ, Australia and America. Last year we all got together with my Mum for her 70th birthday which was a few days before Mothers Day. It was the first time in over 25 years she had had ALL her children with her to celebrate !!!! I talked to her last night for her 71st birthday and she said that as far as the highlights of her life go they are: her wedding day, births of her children and her 70th birthday/Mothers Day week last year !! So her favourite Mothers Day memory is MY favourite too ♥

  17. Darylann Sim says:

I have 4 lovely children who make me mothers day cards that I keeep its so nice to read the lovely things they write as they get older and see how fast they are growing

  18. Cheekyrelle says:

One year I was particularly short on cash so I wasn’t able to get my Mum a Mother’s Day gift. Instead we went to 2 Shopping Centres and got all the free goodies they were giving away – A rose, chocolates, moisturiser samples, had lunch with a buy one get one free voucher and ended the day taking a car for a test drive. Mum still talks about this 4 years later!

  19. Tara says:

The little fella giving me a handwritten note this morning, which explained what he thought was so special about me and why he loved me so much – for an early Mothers day surprise. So cute!
