Waikato Migrant Centres Twilight Market

The festive season is a great chance for us all to celebrate the wonderful traditions that make us who we are. One of the coolest things about living in NZ is that those traditions are so varied. But what remains constant through all cultures is the importance of food in traditions, celebrations and cultural identity, even if you now live in a different country. The great thing about food is that the smell and taste can transport us and evoke powerful memories and emotions. Anyone who has lived overseas for any length of time will have a list of the foods they missed from home. I remember my first Christmas away, all I wanted was my grandmothers Christmas pudding. In fact my Grandmother, who was big on traditions, sent one to me in London.
Tonight was the Waikato Migrant Resource Centres Twilight market and a fun way to spend a friday evening, discovering the food of the different cultures that make up our community.

We are a FREE magazine celebrating fresh local flavour in the BOP & Waikato. We write, cook, photograph and talk food pretty much constantly.
