Gran’s Family Table – Recipes inspired by Dulcie May Booker

Home cooking is definitely back in fashion and recipes from yester year are proving enormously popular with books a plenty being published reprising many long forgotten cooking ideas.

Bestselling cookbook author, Natalie Oldfield associates many moments of happiness and family celebration with food, and in particular the shared preparation of delicious food with her late grandmother, Dulcie May Booker.  In this, her second book, Natalie brings us a new selection of traditional home cooking inspired yet again by her beloved Gran.

Have you ever tried making your own crumpets?  In Gran’s Family Table you will find simple and clear instructions on how to do just that!  Many of us have grown up thinking
that crumpets are only a pre-packaged treat from the supermarket and never considered making them.  There are loads of ideas for every meal of the day packed into the pages of this book.

The ingredients for all Natalie’s recipes are simple and wholesome and easy to come by.  Every recipe is photographed in full colour and is styled in a manner that can be easily replicated by the home cook.

I like the fact that the book is published in hard cover (without a pesky dust jacket) with a retro inspired style.  They also use lovely thick paper stock that will stand up to the rigours of frequent use.  As well as a useful reference book of family pleasing recipes, this book would in my opinion make an excellent gift for a beginning cook and is excellent value at RRP $60.  Available from Poppies Bookshop, Casabella Lane.
